Community College of Philadelphia
In early 2005, the Community College of Philadelphia (CCP) hired a new payroll manager with no experience with higher education or with the BANNER Human resources / Payroll module. CCP turned to SMART to provide accelerated training and coaching for the new payroll manager. In the process, SMART was instrumental in researching and resolving several payroll issues the new manager faced in his first week on the job. By the end of the engagement, which included many consultations after the on-site portion, the new manager was fully trained on the BANNER payroll processes, the BANER human resource processes for employee administration and job assignment, as well as key elements of the BANNER position control module. The CCP payroll department was left with a comprehensive payroll checklist that included critical audit and control processes allowing CCP to discover and resolve payroll issues before an employee’s paycheck was affected.

Dickinson College
SMART served as Dickinson’s system implementation partner for the implementation of Banner. The modules implemented were Finance (General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Fixed Assets, Grants / Projects, Endowments), Advancement (Constituent / Organization, Solicitor Organization, Campaigns, Prospect and Grant Management, Designations, Gifts, Pledges, Matching Gifts), HR/Payroll/Benefits, Student (Catalog, Schedule, Faculty Schedule, Buildings and Rooms, General Student, Registration, Academic History) and General Person. In addition to leading the Functional implementation, SMART managed and coded the data conversions to support the go-live, as well as developed a complex interface to Recruitment Plus.

SMART provided a one day assessment of the payroll services and system operations at Itawamba Community College. This involved interviewing stakeholders and reviewing the utilization of the Banner system. SMART provide recommendations and approaches that would improve services and allow a more efficient and effective operation that supports the payroll operation of the college.

SMART provided assistance with Lumins integration components for the institutions to successfully run WebCT through their portal. SMART reviewed configuration components and provided recommendations to solve the access problem to the WebCT product.

Lehigh Carbon Community College
SMART was engaged to assess the Banner Student Accounts Receivable module and develop custom reporting from AR to meet external audit requirements and management reporting needs. SMART reviewed all rule and control form configuration as well as associated system and business processes, and identified opportunities for improvements in those areas. SMART also developed custom aging reports that addressed the external audit requirements and provided management with improved operational reporting to meet the day to day business needs of the college.

Marshall University
SMART was engaged to assist with the loading of external data to the BANNER Advancement product. This included graduates and matching gift data. The projects involved performing appropriate matching criteria to records in BANNER to avoid creating duplicate records. For the graduate load, the project involved loading biographic, demographic, and degree data in order to be able to contact and communicate with newly graduated alumni in a quicker and more efficient manner. For the matching gift data load, it involved loading various matching gift rules to enhance Marshall’s identification and management of matching gift dollars.

Pace University
SMART performed an institutional system review to provide recommendations that would generate substantive improvements to the oversight and administrative processes, thereby improving effectiveness, efficiency, and oversight as related to the University’s Finance, Financial Aid, Accounts Receivable and Student Assistance activities. SMART’s primary objective for this review was to assess the root causes of current issues around budget planning and reporting, and subsequently determine appropriate actions to modify processes and/or system configuration to mitigate the issues. Also, during this comprehensive assessment, opportunities for improvement to system utilization, processing and reporting environment were identified.

Seton Hall University
SMART served as Seton Hall’s primary implementation partner for the implementation of Finance, Human Resources and Payroll. SMART provided both project management and system integration (requirements validation, process design, system configuration, testing and training) resources to lead the implementation of those modules. SMART also provided system process design and system integration support for the successful Student implementation, which included Registration, Admissions and Accounts Receivable. SMART also managed the design and implementation of ODS reporting infrastructure, including the design and build of numerous key reports.

Swarthmore College
Swarthmore purchased the Luminis product and needed assistance in their planning, preparation and implementation. SMART served as the educator, evaluator, provided guidance and advise the college on its planning and preparation for its overall Luminis project, from requirements definition through deployment. Planning activities also addressed other training and resource requirements, including appropriate SGHE resources; architectural planning, including required Banner, Luminis versions, databases
and testing environments; identity management planning, including the touch points among Banner, and Luminis, external authentication sources and other connected systems.

University of South Florida Foundation
SMART provided an assessment of the advancement services operations at the University of South Florida Foundation. There was mixed feedback about the services being provided to the fundraising operation that could appropriately support an upcoming capital campaign which would increase the dollars and donors to the institution. This involved interviewing staff and those that received services from the organization to understand the issues facing the foundation that was on the brink of a capital campaign. SMART provided recommendations and approaches of different priorities that would improve service and allow a more efficient and effective operation that supports the fundraising initiatives of the institution.

Valencia Community College
SMART served as Valencia’s implementation partner for the BANNER Xtender product. SMART provided project management, installation support, process design, system configuration, testing and training. The product was first implemented for the Finance, Procurement and Accounts Payable departments. Over time, this imaging system would be deployed to all business areas within the college, regardless if the documents are
BANNER or non-BANNER documents.
