John joins SMART as a seasoned Corporate Executive, CFO, and former Big Four Managing Director with proven management, finance, and accounting experience. The depth and breadth of John’s exposure to customer delivery, financial management, business strategy, reengineering, process improvement, reporting and change management will bring leadership and creativity to his new post at SMART.

Most recently, John was the Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President of Old Mutual US Life/Fidelity & Guaranty Life Insurance Company- a UK owned international life insurance and financial services entity, and one of the fastest-growing insurance companies in the U.S. While there, he was responsible for all financial aspects of the company, as well as actuarial valuation/ modeling.  John was an integral part of the executive team leading the overall business strategy and operations to a 32% CAGR from 2000-2006 reaching $4 billion in sales.

Previously, John was a Partner with Ernst & Young, LLP, in their Mid-Atlantic region, based in Baltimore.  John has significant experience in the financial services (banking, insurance, etc.) and real estate industries, as well as serving clients in other industries; in various states of the business cycle, including SEC registrants and privately owned companies.  During his tenure with E&Y, John was also responsible for the oversight of the Real Estate Practice in Baltimore and later for the Internal Audit Practice in Baltimore; and, he had a leadership role in several of the company’s Audit Innovation initiatives.
