SMART Business Advisory and Consulting, LLC Adds New Partner to Tax Practice
New York, April 18, 2007 - SMART Business Advisory and Consulting, LLC (SMART) continues to rapidly expand its presence in New York City with the addition of Elizabeth (Betsy) Gillon, CPA, a new partner with the firm’s Tax Practice.
Gillon brings more than 11 years of domestic and international tax experience to SMART with particular focus in assisting companies in the manufacturing, technology, and life sciences industries. Her expertise spans federal tax planning including R&D tax credit studies, transaction services and IPO planning, FAS 109 and FIN 48, and tax compliance services. She also advises clients in the areas of multi-state tax planning and international tax planning.
Prior to joining SMART, Gillon was a Senior Tax Manager at Deloitte Tax LLP in New York City. There, she provided tax consulting and compliance services to a variety of attest and non-attest clients. Gillon was also selected to serve in Deloitte’s National Tax Management Development Program. In this role, she assisted in all aspects of running the $1.7 billion tax practice.
Earlier in her career, Gillon was a Tax Manager at Ernst & Young, LLP, providing tax consulting and compliance services to a diverse group of domestic and foreign owned corporations and partnerships. She served the manufacturing, retail and entrepreneurial service industries and was involved in mergers and acquisitions, reorganizations, international tax, net operating loss utilization, state tax minimization and nexus studies. Gillon also served at the firm’s U.S. Tax Desk in Milan, Italy advising multinational clients with reorganization rules, consolidated group issues, and tax basis/earnings and profits issues.
Gillon earned a Masters in Professional Accounting from the University of Texas at Austin and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Trinity College in Connecticut. She is a Certified Public Accountant in New Jersey, New York and Texas.
